Even If

I don’t know if you’ve ever dealt with physical pain, but I can say from personal experience it’s agonizing and frustrating at times. I had a specific few issues which I prayed consistently would be healed, and the speed that I wanted healing was not what happened. It took longer, sometimes years longer. Why is that? Well, God does hear our prayers so we know He is listening. He gave His only Son up for us to die on the cross for our sins, so we know He cares deeply for us. So what happens when the healing doesn’t come?

You first have to know this: God’s timeline is not ours.

2 Peter 3:8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.”

When we are frustrated that the healing of our bodies or the answers to our circumstances are not within our own human timeline, it’s because we are comparing our perspective of time against God’s. We are called to be patient.

Isaiah 55:8-9

“8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

I can tell you that, looking back now after having seen what God was doing through me when He didn’t answer my prayers as I wanted, He did a mighty work in my heart. He changed the direction of my life. He opened my eyes to truth. I was able to see beauty even in the middle of my pain. Want to know how? Because I realized that I am called to give thanks in ALL circumstances. Yes, that includes those of pain, fear, frustration and disappointment.

Remember that Jesus himself was no stranger to suffering. He endured the cross for our salvation and God brought redemption through pain. When we know that God loves us and has proved His love for us through Jesus, we know that, even in our struggles, He is working all things for our good.

Romans 8:28

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

He has a plan and a purpose for each of us. While we are looking at our circumstances for the moment, God is seeing the big picture. He knows EXACTLY what we need to experience to shape us into people who have hearts like Jesus.

Jeremiah 29:11

“11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

If you are having trouble seeing the big picture, don’t try to worry more or become frustrated with the Lord because of your circumstances. He loves you, yes you! Trust Him. He will make a beautiful testimony out of your struggles. How do I know this? Because He did this precise thing to me.

During the period where I was dealing with pain, I did not get healed for years. But now that I have seen healing in my life, I know that those trials were BLESSINGS. God wanted to teach me something that I could not have learned if my circumstances were easy. He showed me how to depend on Him alone for comfort.

Ecclesiastes 3:11

“11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

Do not, however, stop praying just because you don’t know when your answers will come! He wants to hear from you. Prayer is more than just a request, it’s a reflection of your relationship with God. In order to build a strong relationship with someone, you have to talk to them frequently. The same goes for our relationship with God.

Hebrews 4:16

16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Tell Him your frustrations. Ask Him for the help you need. But most importantly, thank Him for loving you so much! Thank Him for molding you. Thank Him for making everything beautiful in His time. Thank Him for His perfect plan for your life! Trust Him, always. He has called us to be courageous and bold, knowing that He is working ALL things for our good.

Psalm 62:8

“Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”

One way or another God will heal you in His timing. When will that be? I honestly don’t know. What I do know is that we will find ultimate healing in Heaven, so despite any pain we endure here, restoration is a promise. Even in suffering the healing of a heart and soul is a mighty miracle, worthy of praise!

1 Peter 5:6

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”

The song, “Even If” by Kutless is a beautiful example of how we are to praise God in times of difficulty. Though our circumstances may change, our God remains the same forever.

Jesus, thank you for listening to our prayers. Thank you for Your kindness. Thank you for Your mercy. Thank you for remaining with us in the difficult times. Thank you for making all things new and beautiful in their perfect time. Help us to remain dedicated to You, Lord, even when we experience pain, loss, hurt and disappointment. Despite our circumstances, You are always good and You are always reigning. Thank you God!

Lyrics: “Even If”

Sometimes all we have to hold on to
Is what we know is true of who You are
So when the heartache hits like a hurricane
That could never change who You are
And we trust in who You are
Even if the healing doesn’t come
And life falls apart
And dreams are still undone
You are God You are good
Forever faithful One
Even if the healing
Even if the healing doesn’t come

Lord we know Your ways are not our ways
So we set our faith in who You are
Even though You reign high above us
You tenderly love us
We know Your heart
And we rest in who You are

Even if the healing doesn’t come
And life falls apart
And dreams are still undone
You are God You are good
Forever faithful One
Even if the healing
Even if the healing doesn’t come

You’re still the Great and Mighty One
We trust You always
You’re working all things for our good
We’ll sing your praise

Even if the healing doesn’t come
And life falls apart
And dreams are still undone
You are God You are good
Forever faithful One
Even if the healing
Even if the healing doesn’t come

You are God and we will bless You
As the Good and Faithful One
You are God and we will bless You
Even if the healing doesn’t come
Even if the healing doesn’t come
